Before you delete
Deletion is permanent. If you want to keep a readable copy of the data stored on your device, open Profile → Settings → Export a copy and finish sharing the file before you continue.
It creates a JSON file with the Couples, letters, and memories stored on your device. The temporary file Duonook uses is deleted after the share sheet opens.
How to delete your account and data
- Open Duonook on the device linked to your account.
- Go to the Profile tab and open Settings.
- Scroll down to the last section and tap Delete account and data.
- Read the summary, tap Continue and confirm with Delete for both.
- Keep the app open until the process is complete and the start screen appears.
If you are using a local-only mode, the option appears as Delete all local data and removes Couples and memories from that device.
What happens after you confirm
With a connected account, Duonook deletes your account, your devices, and your sessions, along with every Couple you are still a member of. That Couple’s letters, memories, mini game challenges, and other shared encrypted content also disappear for both of you. The local identity, keys, and encrypted copies on your phone are deleted too.
Your partner keeps their own account and devices, but will no longer find the Couple they shared with you. Couples you had already left remain with the member who stayed; your encrypted vault and the mini game challenges you had started are removed from them.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Duonook Plus subscription, which is managed by Apple: to stop it from renewing, cancel it on your iPhone in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Some records that are strictly necessary for accounting integrity or abuse prevention may be kept without being attributed to any individual: identifying information is removed or replaced with anonymous values.
Once all authorized devices and recovery material have been deleted, the encrypted content cannot be recovered.
If the deletion doesn’t finish
Reopen Duonook on the same device and repeat the process before signing in again. The app keeps only the technical state needed to safely resume any unfinished steps.
If you have switched phones, choose Recover my Couple, use your personal key, and then start the deletion from Settings. Never send your key or your Couple’s content to support.
If you no longer have either an authorized device or your key, Duonook cannot verify which anonymous account is yours or bypass its protection. support@duonook.com can help you with the app, but cannot restore access.
