Terms of Use.

The essential rules for using Duonook and sharing a Couple respectfully, safely, and without surprises.

Effective October 6, 2026

The basic app is free. Duonook Plus is an optional subscription: you pay for it through the App Store and can cancel it anytime in your Apple ID settings.

1. Provider and acceptance

Duonook is provided by Guido Cacace, VAT no. 13827430961, based at Via Alberelle 55, 20089 Rozzano (MI), Italy. For support, you can write to support@duonook.com; for privacy matters, to privacy@duonook.com.

By creating an account or using the service, you accept these Terms and confirm that you have read the Privacy Policy. If you do not accept them, do not continue with onboarding.

2. Minimum age

To use the basic app, you must be at least 14 years old, or any higher minimum age set in the country where you live. If you are under the age of majority, you must have permission from a parent or guardian, which is also required for any purchases where the law or the app store requires it.

3. The service and the beta

Duonook is a private space for two people: it lets you share moods, Letters, digital gifts, lists, memories, and mini games. The basic app is free; some extra features are part of the Duonook Plus subscription, described in section 7. The beta version may include experimental features, minor bugs, or more frequent changes than usual.

Features and availability may vary depending on platform, region, version, security considerations, or app store requirements. We will give reasonable notice of material changes that affect users’ rights, except in urgent security situations or where required by law.

4. Account, devices, and Couple

Your account is anonymous: it does not require an email address or password. You are responsible for access to your devices, your recovery key, and the invite links you create. Each invite is valid for 7 days: share it only with the person you want to add.

Your recovery key is personal: do not publish it, do not give it to your partner, and do not send it to support. Anyone who has an authorized device or the key can access the associated data. Without the key and without an authorized device, not even Duonook can restore access.

Each Couple can have two members. Some actions, such as removing a device or deleting your account, affect the shared space: if you delete your account, the Couples you share are deleted for your partner as well. The app shows a summary before you confirm.

5. The couple’s content

You retain the rights to the content you add and are responsible for having the right to share it. When you send content, you grant Duonook only the technical, non-exclusive, and limited license necessary to encrypt, transmit, store, and show it to your partner according to the features you choose. The license ends upon deletion, except for the residual technical copies described in the Privacy Policy.

Duonook does not sell or publish private content, or use it for advertising or model training. However, end-to-end encryption also limits our support team’s ability to read, moderate, or recover what you have written: think carefully about what you share and keep your recovery material safe.

6. Acceptable use and safety

You may not use Duonook to break the law or infringe the rights of others, to harass, threaten, or blackmail anyone, to monitor your partner, to spread malware, to circumvent protections, or to share unlawful material. Attempting to access accounts, devices, or infrastructure without authorization is prohibited.

Duonook is not an emergency, health, or personal safety tool. If you are in danger, contact emergency services or a qualified organization.

7. Hearts, Plus, and purchases

Hearts are earned by using the app and are used to unlock gifts and other content within it. They cannot be bought individually with real money: with Duonook Plus, the Couple receives a top-up every month.

Hearts and other virtual items are not money, do not earn interest, cannot be transferred outside Duonook, and cannot be exchanged for money. They remain tied to the account or Couple in which they were obtained; deleting your account may make them permanently unusable.

Duonook Plus

Duonook Plus is an optional subscription that adds features and content to the Couple: for example, 80 hearts a month, Plus-only avatars, seals, and mini game packs, photos in Letters and in the Story, and unlimited ideas in the Together List. The up-to-date list is on the Plus page in the app. Letters, moods, activities, and couple memories remain available even without Plus.

One subscription covers both of you. Plus is linked to the Duonook account of the person who buys it and also applies to their partner, as long as the person paying for it is a member of the Couple. If the person paying leaves the Couple or deletes their account, the Couple loses Plus even if the subscription with Apple is still active: in that case, remember to cancel it. If you both activate it, you pay for two subscriptions for the same benefits.

You can choose a weekly, monthly, or yearly plan. The price and length of each plan are shown in the app before you confirm, including taxes, in your App Store currency: they may vary depending on your country and local taxes, and the price you see at the time of purchase always applies. There is currently no free trial. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.

The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, for the same length and at the current price, unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The renewal is charged within the 24 hours before the current period ends. If the price changes, Apple will notify you in advance and, where its rules require it, ask you to accept the new price.

You can manage or cancel your subscription on your iPhone in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or with “Manage subscription” on the Plus page in the app. If you cancel, Plus stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app or your Duonook account does not cancel the subscription. On a new phone, you can get it back with “Restore purchases,” using the same Apple ID.

Purchases are made through the App Store: payment, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple under its own terms, and Duonook cannot issue refunds directly. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you exercise the right of withdrawal for digital content and services with Apple, in the manner, within the time limits, and subject to the exceptions set out by law and the App Store terms. Nothing in these Terms limits your mandatory consumer rights, which cannot be waived.

When the subscription ends or is refunded, the Couple goes back to the free version: you can no longer use Plus-only avatars, seals, and mini game packs, add new photos, or add ideas beyond the ten open ones. What you have already written and saved, including photos, remains yours, and hearts already credited stay in your balance.

In the beta distributed via TestFlight, subscriptions go through Apple’s test environment: you are not charged anything, and Plus renews and expires on the accelerated schedule set by Apple.

8. Availability, warranties, and liability

We do our best to keep Duonook available and secure, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may temporarily suspend features for maintenance, security, or technical reasons, or at the request of authorities.

The statutory warranty and the other mandatory rights that consumers cannot waive always continue to apply. To the extent permitted by law, Duonook is not liable for indirect damage or for consequences arising from misuse, loss of the key, unprotected access to the device, or content shared by users. This limitation does not apply in cases of willful misconduct, gross negligence, personal injury, or any other liability that cannot be excluded.

9. Ownership of Duonook

The app, website, trademarks, graphics, mascot, catalogs, and software belong to the provider or its licensors. We grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, and non-transferable right to use the service in accordance with these Terms. You may not copy, resell, or exploit the service beyond what the law allows.

10. Deletion, suspension, and termination

You can delete your account and data in Settings. The process deletes your account and your devices, as well as every Couple you are still a member of and its shared encrypted content, for your partner too; some accounting or integrity records may be kept without being attributed to any individual. See the full process.

We may restrict or close access in cases of serious abuse, a concrete security risk, a material breach of these Terms, or a legal obligation. Where possible, we will explain why and offer a way to challenge the decision by writing to support.

11. Changes to these Terms

The date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes will be announced in the app with reasonable notice. If you do not accept a change, you can stop using the service and delete your account before the change takes effect.

12. Governing law, jurisdiction, and contact

These Terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the mandatory protections provided by the law of the country where you habitually reside. For Italian consumers, the court of the consumer’s place of residence or domicile has mandatory jurisdiction. Solely for users who are not acting as consumers, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Milan.

Before starting a dispute, write to support@duonook.com: we will try to find a simple solution. You can always turn to the competent court or to the alternative dispute resolution procedures provided for by law.
